The acrylic screen of the clock is made up of five squares, the side lengths of each square matching the first five Fibonacci numbers: 1, 1, 2, 3, and 5. Add the red and blue squares to read the hour. The minutes are displayed in five-minute increments, so to get those you just add the green and blue squares and multiply the result by 5.The Fibonacci Clock is perfect for STEAM enthusiasts: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (definitely math), all in one clock! The light sequences are randomized whenever there is more than one way to display a certain time (so you'll be kept on your toes by the 16 different ways to display "6:30"). You can try out one of the ten different color palettes to change up the look. There are also two different lamp modes, for when you want to give your brain a break and just display some beautiful mathematical art.
It's also hackable to your heart's content! Driven by an Atmega328 microcontroller running Arduino, with an included FTDI connector and a yellow LED connected to pin #13 for debugging, it's an open source project that invites you to write and upload your own code as you like. And you have your choice of DIY-ness right from the start: Get the "Full Kit" and put it all together yourself, or the "Assembled Kit" with a preassembled wooden housing (if you're not into waiting for glue to dry), or get it "Fully Assembled" (perfect for plug-n-play types or gifting on a tight schedule).
