"When I had once begun it, I could not lay down again; I remember finishing it in two days - my hair standing on end the whole time." - Henry Tilney, Northanger Abbey

It introduce you to people you can't meet anywhere else, because they don't exist. Rather, they do exist, but they only exist in the space that conjoins the writer and the reader, as a unique entity created by the author, but also created by the reader's act of reading.
