Bryan Cranston is the second actor in history to receive the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series three years in a row. The first? Bill Cosby.
"You're going to see that underlying humanity, even when he's making the most devious, terrible decisions, and you need someone who has that humanity – deep down, bedrock humanity – so you say, watching this show, 'All right, I'll go for this ride. I don't like what he's doing, but I understand, and I'll go with it for as far as it goes.' If you don't have a guy who gives you that, despite the greatest acting chops in the world, the show is not going to succeed." - creator Vince Gilligan, about actor Bryan Cranston
The producers of Breaking Bad were a little apprehensive about casting Bryan Cranston in the lead role of Walter White (aka Heisenberg). After all, he was the goofy dad from Malcolm in the Middle. They offered the role to John Cusack and Matthew Broderick first. After watching Cranston in the role, we can't imagine Heisenberg being played by anyone else.
