Showdown in Average-Sized Tokyo

  • To win, destroy Tokyo or be the last monster standing
  • For 2-6 players, ages 10+
  • We like dice that come up Monster Claw

You know what would make dice games similar to and yet legally-distinct from Yahtzee even better? If they incorporated more monsters similar to and yet legally-distinct from Godzilla. [Yes, we watched this episode of Wil Wheaton's Tabletop.]

Meet King of Tokyo!, a board game in which players battle as mutant monsters, gigantic robots, and strange aliens to destroy Tokyo and/or be the last of the aforementioned beasties standing. When you move into Tokyo, you get to punch everyone outside of Tokyo. On the other hand (or perhaps, more accurately, claw), you also get punched by everyone outside of Tokyo, so there's a lot of monsters storming in to Tokyo and then fleeing. Which would be pretty funny to observe. From a safe distance.

It's a fun game. Anybody who can play Yahtzee will pick it up quickly, so it's a great game even for playing with your non-geek friends who don't understand the monsters' obsessions with Tokyo. They don't have to understand. They just have to play.
