The ThinkGeek Newsletter!

April 21, 2005

Something great is happening in late April that has the folks here at ThinkGeek as pumped up as Mario on a planet of mushrooms and bouncing stars. The release next week of HHGTTG. The movie! We only pray that justice has been served in its making. If it has not, we can easily dream up at least and probably at most forty-two ways to make those responsible suffer. That said, with towel in tote we now begin our most recent round-up of the best goodies this side of Magrathea...

TV B Gone

Turn Off TVs During TV-Turnoff Week With The TV-B-Gone
April 25th - May 1st

Celebrate TV-Turnoff week this year in impishly geeky fashion with the TV-B-Gone. Why would you want to turn off the TV? Well, perhaps you want to play with your PSP, defrag your hard-drive, check email on your Blackberry or simply play XBOX on your DLP Projector (technically it's not a TV). The TV-B-Gone can help. It's a small television remote that hangs on your keychain and turns off virtually any television with the press of a button. Now, you might ask again, why would you want to turn off multiple TVs at once? Well, without revealing too much of our devious nature we can think of a few things. Imagine sports bars or annoying talking head shows that appear on monitors at the airport. Add to that your own creativity and we're sure you'll have some fun. ThinkGeek is not responsible for the consequences if you happen to inadvertently activate your TV-B-Gone at your local Mega-TV store.

What's New @ ThinkGeek !!

Wi-Fi Digital Hotspotter

Wi-Fi Digital Hotspotter

Imagine... you suddenly you find yourself in a foreign land, like the Detroit airport or maybe a not-so-authentic sushi restaurant. You need network access right away to get your daily dose of blog watching in, but breaking out your laptop to check for a Wi-Fi signal is a real drag. Then you remember you have the Wi-Fi Digital Hotspotter that you bought from ThinkGeek. Life is suddenly a lot easier with this new Wi-Fi detector that features a LCD screen that shows signal strength, network ID (SSID), encryption status and channel. It also provides specific information about each network when multiple networks are present. Quite a handy gadget to have in this new age of wireless connectivity.

Stingray Firewall - A New Way Of Protecting Your Network

Stingray Firewall - A New Way Of Protecting Your Network

The Stingray stealth protection system is a revolutionary Intelligent Hardware Firewall and Anti Virus compliment which does not require any configuration or maintenance and is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Unlike conventional firewalling solutions which are bound by a static rule set (an unchanging set of instructions to process information), Stingray's Intelligent Firewall automatically creates its rule sets on the fly, making it impossible for hackers to determine out the algorithm or function during communication. Stingray adapts to your system without any driver or software installation and is not computer or user dependent, which means it will not impede your computers performance and it is impervious to viruses. Best of all, it is OS independent, so it can be used to protect Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs.

The Definitive Marshmallow Shooter

The Marshmallow Shooter is the perfect combination of shrapnel and sugar. If you enjoyed the pump action of the burp guns of old, but were always upset you couldn't eat the plastic bullets, then the Marshmallow Shooter is for you. Imagine shooting out mini marshmallows, rapid fire, at all who dare to cross your path. It's 20 shot magazine gives you the edge for an extended tour of duty. With a Marshmallow Shooter in your arsenal, you will own the office watercooler – you might even conquer the cubicles. Get your fluff on here:

Completely Battery Free Mouse

Completely Battery Free Mouse

This wireless optical mouse sucks. But in a good way. It sucks its energy inductively from the USB mouse pad and therefore needs no batteries, which makes it super light. Also, it transmits using advanced RFID technology to minimize the risk of signal interference. This makes it a perfect mouse for LAN parties (yes, and boring office use) – up to 100 BFWO Mice can play in one room. And it has 3 customizable buttons for tons of possibilities, which makes it even better for LAN parties (yes, and office use, too).

HHGTTG Is Coming. The Movie. Dress Appropriately.

You know the answer. It's 42. But what is the question? Hamlet thought he knew, but he was just being a wuss. Nobody really knows, because the Earth blew up a little prematurely. Five minutes longer and we could party like it was the end of the Universe. Celebrate your knowledge with our 42 products. Sleep under the meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything with our 42 blanket. Show everyone you know what's up, by wearing our 42 T-shirt or our fancy new 42 Work Shirt. For those strags who stare at you, confused, share the love with a copy of The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide:

High-end Adventure Gaming Dice Sets

High-end Adventure Gaming Dice Sets

You are alone in the dark. There is a path to the right and a large wooden door to the left. The foul smell of rotting flesh hangs in the air. What do you do? Of course you go through the door and of course you get eaten by a grue. That's just the way intros like these have to work. Next time you roll for survival however, roll with these extravagant adventure gaming dice. Choose from three different sets including actual bone, hematite and brushed steel. Each set of seven dice comes included with a leather carrying bag! Never slay another chromatic dragon without a set like these again! Or the dwarf gets it:

Cyclops SR1 - R/C Spy Car With Built-in Color LCD Display

If you were ever a kid or a geek (or both) then having a remote controlled vehicle with a wireless camera was probably high on your fantasy wishlist. Well, technology has moved along nicely and we would like to present the Cyclops SR1. It's a spy car with a built in microphone and on board wireless video camera. The video and audio are transmitted to the remote control unit, which features a 1.8" Color TFT LCD display. The car has high/low speeds settings and bright white headlights (remote controlled). You can also play a nice game of "tag" with other Cyclops vehicles using the integrated infrared beam.

Swedish FireSteel

Swedish FireSteel

Originally developed for the Swedish Department of Defense, Swedish FireSteel is a flash of genius. Its 3,000 degree C spark makes fire building easy in any weather, at any altitude. Used by a number of armies around the world, Swedish FireSteel’s dependability has already made it a favorite of survival experts, hunters, fishermen and campers. It has also found its way into cabins and backyards as a fool-proof way to light stoves and gas-barbecues. Amazingly enough it also works equally well when wet. We think geeks will appreciate the power of being able to start a fire with such a simple tool. Catch a flame here:

LighTalk LED Scanner Wand Thingy

Doodle, Scan, and Impress! The LighTalk is a handheld scanner, which stores up to 4 of your greatest doodles or messages. Select the image/message you want, and wave the pen back and forth. A series of LEDs creates an image in mid air. Oh, the magic of persistence of vision! The LighTalk is about the size of a large marker, so it is very easy to carry around. And with 2 AAA batteries (included) you can display your doodle for up to 10 continuous hours of admiration. And we know you want to show off your doodle.

Freedom Keepsafe

Freedom Keepsafe

If you're reading this newsletter, we don't have to tell you how much geeks love their portable electronic gizmos, or how much they hate misplacing them. Well, such heartache can now be a thing of the past thanks to the Freedom Keepsafe. This product is comprised of two devices: one to attach to the item you want to keep track of, and one to keep in your pocket. When the system is activated, an audible alarm and flashing LED are activated when these units are separated from one another by a user-determined range. Great for use with cell phones, PDAs, or even your PSP, to make sure you don't leave behind your precious cargo!

Tiny Tag - Miniature Laser Tag

Does that triple shot mocha you just chugged have you feeling a little too frazzled to focus on work and a little too energetic to stay in your seat? If so, you need to play a quick game of TinyTag. Just toss one of the two included controllers to your nearest office pal and then chase each other mindlessly throughout the fluorescent hallways. All you have to do is point your TinyTag unit at your opponents and hit the fire button. Sound effects and LED lights keep score so you know who is winning. Recommended as a safe way to vent out office frustrations without inflicting bodily harm:
