Meet a ThinkGeek Monkey!

There are a lot of really cool and nice people who work at ThinkGeek. And, there are a lot of really cool and nice people who shop at ThinkGeek. So, we thought it was time for all of us to get to know each other a little better. How? By answering a smattering of questions. First one of us will answer a few questions. Then, you can too, in the comments, if you want. Or, use the comments to suggest questions for future monkeys to answer!

Enter and sign in, please!

Q: Who are you, how long have you worked at ThinkGeek, and what do you do?

A: I am Chris Mindel and I've been working at ThinkGeek since 2004. I started in customer service, transitioned to a buyer, and then found my true calling with the marketing department. The job title in my e-mail signature is: Words and Moving Pictures Wrangler. I write a bunch of our product copy, write some of these here blog posts, and help make our videos as cromulent as possible.

Q. What is your favorite piece of literature?

A: One of my favorite books ever is Childhood's End, by Arthur C. Clarke. It's the only book I've ever read that has made me cry. I also really love Shakespeare's comedy Macbeth. So, I'm not sure what to answer. But since I'm writing this blog post, I'll let myself get away with a double answer.

Q. What is your favorite piece of candy?

A: I think that would probably be the York Peppermint Pattie. I just love the way the dark chocolate parties with the mint and invites your tongue along for the ride.

Q: If you could have any one superpower, what would you have for dinner?

A: Pizza.

Q: What would you most like to do to confuse future archeologists?

A: I would like to grow a prehensile tail. I would like to do this anyways.

Q: What do you like best?

A: Maury Povich once asked me that question. I had no idea what he meant, either.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: My favorite movie is The Wizard of Speed and Time. It a very simple movie, full of old-school (and hand-crafted) special effects by wizard Mike Jittlov. It's a movie that inspires creativity while celebrating the magic of it. I own two different VHS copies (and an autographed poster).

Q: What is your mother's maiden name, your best friend's last name, the last four numbers of your social security number, and the three digit code found on the back of your credit card?

A: Friem... oh, you got me! You crazy kid, you.

And thus concludes this episode of Meet a Monkey! Think you got what it takes to be a monkey? We've got job openings!

ThinkGeek Trivia Night

Hands in the air if you're ready for another Geek Trivia Night!

Update: Tickets are on sale NOW!

New year, new Geek Trivia Night!

The long wait is over. We're kicking off 2015 with another Geek Trivia Night! Did you make it one of your new years resolutions to expand your geeky prowess? We sure hope so!

Join us on Thursday, February 5 for our first Geek Trivia Night of 2015 at Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA. Compete against your fellow geeks for prizes & the title of Geek Masters of the Universe! (Plus, have a grand ol' time while you're at it!)

Tickets go on sale 1pm ET Wednesday, January 21 on Brown Paper Tickets. There is a limited amount, so if it's anything like the previous Trivia Nights, tickets will sell out FAST. We suggest you start recruiting and forming your team of 6-8 people now! Choose your teammates wisely because we'll ask about anything. From Game of Thrones to outer space to the meaning of Timmy.

The Details:

  • Geek Trivia Night will be held on Thursday, February 5, at Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA. The venue serves food and drink (purchased separately) for you to indulge on while participating in the trivia fun.
  • Doors open at 7pm ET, with the festivities running until 10:30pm. There will be 4 rounds of questions, 10 questions per round.
  • Tickets are $15 each and go on sale Wednesday, January 21; they will be sold at a first come, first serve basis. We recommend teams purchase their tickets together.
  • If you're thinking about bringing your geekling, please be aware that everyone must have a ticket, including children. We suggest geeklings be age 13+ and/or huge trivia buffs.
  • Teams must be composed of 6-8 people. We will be contacting the ticket purchasers later regarding your team name, members, and leader. If you have less than 6 but still want to play, we can match you up, but you must agree to leave your fate up to the almighty Timmy! There will be time at the beginning of the night for you to meet your new team & form new friendships.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask us in the comments below.

Think your team has what it takes?! Come out and prove it on February 5!
