ThinkGeek and Nerdist contest prize haul

If you somehow missed our Vader's Day contest with Nerdist earlier this month, prepare to kick yourself in the pants.

We just got some photos back from our lucky winner, Al in Livingston, NJ, and it's quite the haul!

See, when we put together a prize pack, we sometimes overdo it. The list never looks so long when we're setting things up--and then we hear from the winner.

Here's what Al wrote us:

"Thank you so much for all the amazing stuff! I am truly geeking out!! You guys are an amazing and generous company and I am and always will be a fan of ThinkGeek (in fact, I placed an order today for more cool geek swag from your site...my wife's going to be pissed!) I hope the pictures are what you were looking for. Please let me know if there is anything more that you need. [...] Thank you, again, for making my Vader's Day a very happy day."

So please join us in wishing Al a happy belated Vader's Day. Then resolve not to miss our future contest alerts by signing up for our email or following us on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, or Pinterest.

ThinkGeek Geek Trivia Night

All the teams on stage during our Final Jeopardy round!

We're floored by the energy you brought last Thursday to Geek Trivia Night at Jammin Java! We were a bit nervous how our second time around would go, but you showed us we had nothing to worry about. It turned out to be a fantastic evening filled with fun, friendly competition in a room full of geeks being geeks. (Timmy feels so at home with you all - it's like he's known you forever!)

Council of Elders

Our judges for the night! We present to you: the Council of Elders.

All the teams brought their A-game that night, with several returning teams, including the winners from last trivia night, the Brute Squad. After the first round, we could tell it was gonna be anybody's game. The second round of movie clips, where teams were shown Stan Lee cameos and had to name the movie, brought all the scores even closer.

Then, things got interesting. We promised an epic mystery bonus round and we meant it. The challenge? BACON-EATING COMPETITION! The cheer and excitement from the crowd nearly knocked our socks off! Each team had the option of selecting one teammate to go on stage and consume delicious bacon.

The Darkest Timeline

After another close two rounds, it came down to the finale: Final Jeopardy. Teams could wager any amount of points that they currently had and picked one teammate to go up on stage and answer the question. The category? Literature. The question:

"The 1990 novel "Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch" is a collaboration between which two authors?"

Know the answer? If you said, "Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett," then you are correct! Many of our teams knew the answer as well, so it came down to how many points were wagered. So who won? Was it the Brute Squad again? Timmy's Minions, the team that placed second last time? Or I am Jack's Collection of Geeks, who came back with a vengeance?

The Sea Monkeys

The Sea Monkeys with Steve the MC!

The winners are... the Sea Monkeys! A returning team who did not place last time, but wagered almost all their points this time around and walked away with 679 points out of a possible 1018. Each member won a $75 gift certificate and Furry Adventure Slippers. Our second place team was Wibbly Wobbly Teamy Weamy, who received $30 gift certificates and Star Wars Family Decals. In third was I am Jack's Collection of Geeks, redeeming themselves and walking away with $25 gift certificates. Congratulations to all our teams!

Thanks again to Jammin Java for hosting & all our awesome attendees! We hope you're ready for more in September. We'll keep you posted, so keep an eye out!

P.S. One lucky attendee got to go home with this:

Star Wars trench toss

Yep, that's right. Our April fools' Star Wars trench toss prototype!

Matt Smith and Timmy the ThinkGeek monkey

In case you were wondering why Timmy needs costumes...

It's time for our favorite part of the cosplay year!

On Tuesday, July 2 at 5pm ET on our JustinTV channel, we're going to dust off the ol' webcam and unbox Timmy's new fan-made costumes--and you're invited.

For the last month, Timmy's Volunteer Costuming Corps has been hard at work stitching, knitting, crocheting, hot-glueing, and dare we say hacking tiny costumes for Timmy's trip to San Diego Comic-Con. This is your chance to experience the unboxing live, with us, complete with squees and OMGs.

Oh, and mystery prizes. You'll have to watch to find out how to win!

This year, we're expecting to unbox:

  • Robin, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy
  • Hulk, Iron Man, Agent Coulson, Tony Stark, Nick Fury, and Deadpool
  • Spock and Jean-Luc Picard (with teacup!)
  • Minecraft Creeper
  • Darth Vader, R2-D2, Leia, and Boba Fett
  • Daenarys Targaryen (with dragons!) and Joffrey
  • Captain Mal
  • A Timmy-sized TARDIS and Ood
  • Gandalf the Grey
  • Big Daddy
  • A Timmy-sized Chocobo
  • Donatello and Leonardo
  • Finn, Jake, BMO, and Lady Rainicorn
  • Aang (with Appa!)

So don't forget to watch our JustinTV channel on July 2nd at 5pm ET! If you miss it, we will post video later, but you won't have the chance to make us squirm with questions or enter to win mysterious and fabulous (or not, because it's a mystery) prizes.

Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ if you want a reminder when we're broadcasting!

Timmy & the Doubleclicks!

Timmy & The Doubleclicks!

As part of their Summer 2013 Velciraptour (Tour), we had the pleasure of hosting The Doubleclicks at our HQ on 6/13! If you're not familiar, The Doubleclicks are a nerd-folk sister duo, whose songs touch our geeky hearts in a way that only fellow geeks could. As always, it was a treat to have them here with us. They played some of our favorites, and we got a sneak peek of some of the songs off their new album, Lasers and Feelings. Needless to say, we can't wait to listen to the entire album coming out July 9!

The Doubleclicks performing!

Along with the music, the best part about the Doubleclicks show has got to be the banter between sisters Aubrey & Angela. Timmy's favorite part? Aubrey's yelling of "KHAAAANNN" whilst Angela was singing; given the context - a song about cons... how could she resist?!

The Doubleclicks & attendees!

Thank you to all the brave souls who ventured out and drove through the "derecho" to come watch the show. It was a lovely evening filled with laughter and music (and for those who were lucky, raffle prizes of TG goodies!). We can't wait to see you again!

ThinkGeek Trivia Night

If you thought our pie eating competition was epic, wait 'til you see what we've got planned this time!

We've also got a couple of surprises in store for our attendees, so you're not gonna wanna miss it! (Seriously, we're pretty excited.)

The Details:

  • Geek Trivia Night will be held on Thursday, June 20, at Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA. The venue serves food and drink (purchased separately) for you to indulge on while participating in the trivia fun.
  • Doors open at 7pm ET, with the festivities running on until 10:30pm. There will be 4 rounds of questions, 10 questions per round.
  • Tickets are $15 each and go on sale Tuesday, June 4; they will be sold at a first come, first served basis. We recommend teams purchase their tickets together.

If you have less than 6 but still want to play, we'll have a meet & greet at the beginning of the night for you to form friendships and alliances with other players. We can also match you up, but you must agree to leave your fate up to the almighty Timmy.

Do you & your friends dare step up to the challenge? Win & claim the title of Geek Trivia Masters of the Universe!
