So two of the merchants at ThinkGeek went in together to convince the Powers That Be that we needed to stock nail polish for our customers. And it worked, because here you are. We're both traditional geeks, and we're also both polish geeks. You wanna see our nail polish cred? We're currently (Winter 2011) enamored of OPI's Austin-tatious Turquoise, Orly's Gumdrop and Halley's Comet, and OPI for Sephora's Queen of Everything, Meet For Drinks, and Already Famous. (OPI for Sephora = online buying FTW. What were you thinking, OPI?) And Konad. And Seche Vite. Seche Vite on top of anything and everything. So we pass the sniff-test, right? *inhales* Smells like nail polish remover? Yep.
To bring these to you, we worked with Amanda from NerdLacquer, who blends custom polish colors which have a geeky theme. We picked our five favorites to stock at our monkey warehouse.
Shades available:- All of Time and Space: A concrete grey with a minty green tint, perfect for navigating the space-time continuum. With silver shimmer, small and medium fuchsia glitter, and big silver hexagonal glitter.
- Antisocial Media: A cornflower-type blue reminiscent of Twitter's blue without being quite so over-the-top. With blue holo and silver sparkles plus big turquoise and copper hex glitter.
- Warrior Ethos: A candy-apple red that warns people not to mess with you. With black, iridescent, copper, and red glitter, plus medium black hexagonal glitter and large copper hexagonal glitter.
- Don't Panic: A bright green with gold undertones that lets people know you just escaped a Vogon ship. With emerald and grass green small and large hexagonal glitter, plus a sprinkling of holographic sparkle.
- I Think You Call Me... Sexy: Classic police box blue, perfect for those starry nights spent traveling. With blue, silver, and a little bit of red glitter, plus large silver hexagonal glitter.
All polishes come in a standard, full-sized 15ml / .5oz bottle. They are blended from existing colors plus lacquer base, loose glitters and micas, and combine anywhere from 6 to a dozen or more different shades. Because they're a blend, the composition varies from bottle to bottle; see the Details and Specs tab for all possible potential ingredients. None of the polishes that might be part of the blend were tested on animals.
The creatrix recommends two standard coats + a top coat for a finished look and feel. We prefer three thin coats so we can better control where the glitter ends up + a top coat. Our photo of the polish in action is three thin coats, plus Seche Vite. For removal, we recommend soaking a pad with nail polish remover and letting it sit on your nail for a few minutes before trying to scrub. That tends to loosen the glitter up enough to allow it to slide off without too much resistance. Also, don't forget to send us your fabulous action shots!
