Gone without a trace

We always end up more ambitious with our pumpkin carving endeavors than we should be. Although our skill set is more at the triangular eyes and nose level, we'll see some gorgeous portrait of Link as a stencil and think, "THAT'S our pumpkin this year!" It all starts off well. Armed with a box of pushpins, we diligently transfer our desired pattern on to our pumpkin - never noticing that we've shifted the paper as we're going and now Link looks more like a garden gnome. We cut from dot to dot and somehow the dots still show after we're done, like small subway stops on our pumpkin map.

There's an easier way to transfer the ultimate pattern to your pumpkin. Enter Stick 'n Carve from Sulky (yep, the sewing people). It's a flexible, translucent, sticky-back sheet that you can print or copy your pattern on to. Then you just adhere it to your pumpkin - no tape, no pins, no inadvertent pattern moving. The pattern stays on your pumpkin while you carve and then wipes off with water when you're done. It works with foam or actual pumpkins and is guaranteed to make pumpkin carving this Halloween less horrific.

Product Specifications
  • Sulky Stick 'n Carve
  • 3 8 1/2" x 11" printable sheets
  • You can also copy or draw on the sheets
  • Thin, flexible, translucent, sticky-back, water-soluble material
  • Tips:
    • Keep your design to 7 1/2" x 10" to give 1" of border all around
    • Use multiple sheets for larger designs
    • Or for smaller pumpkins print several stencils on a single sheet - just remember to leave a 1" border
    • If your pumpkin curves at the edges of your design, you'll need to basically put darts in the transfer material by folding little overlapping creases
    • Start with the smallest details
    • Keep a towel nearby while carving - you want to ensure your hands are DRY
  • Once complete, wipe down your pumpkin with a sponge to clean up the remainder of the transfer material
  • Would also be good for transferring intricate patterns onto foam or wood for cosplay
  • Includes 3 blank sheets (8 1/2" x 11") of transfer material
