US Patent 2417786

The pocket protector's history starts in Buffalo, New York during World War II. Hurley Smith invented this item of classic nerd attire and it received US patent #2417786 in 1947. Today, you'll see pocket protectors made of everything from sturdy paper to pool-float-smelly PVC. But we wanted something more sturdy... something that would say we are srs bsns about protecting the sanctity of our breast pocket.

The Leather Pocket Protector is handmade from premium American English Bridle Leather. ("American English?" you ask. "WTF does that mean, ThinkGeek?" It's English Bridle style leather, made in the USA!) English Bridle leather is vegetable-tanned hide, drum-dyed, and hot stuffed for a beautiful and durable finish. It starts out a bit stiff, but with time and care will be soft, supple, and durable enough to last a lifetime.
