As long as you learn, it's not a failure.
Good scientists will tell you that any test that yields valid data is a valid test. They might be a bit depressed when they say it, but it's true. Other scientists who will argue that any test is valid if you learn something from the experience. This is particularly true of ones who can't predict what's going to happen. We're not talking about the ability to know ahead of time the result of an experiment. That's the point of doing the experiment in the fist place. But on the most basic level, what's going to happen? The sort of unexpected things that happen when you mix Jamie with C4 or killer robots and Grant (hint: they weren't killer to begin with).
We kid. We kid. But failure is an important part of the learning process, in both science and life.
