RELOAD!

When we put the word "crossbow" into our favorite visual search engine, the two geek franchises that float to the top are "RuneScape" and "Walking Dead." But surely there are more, right? Van Helsing, for instance. And we seem to remember lots of no-name bad guys using crossbows. That got us thinking. Why is it you don't see heroes using crossbows more often? They always seem to have longbows instead. What's up with that?

There's a great in-depth discussion over on RPG.net about it, from which we've cherry-picked this insightful statement about the weapon's presentation in televsion and movies. "It's not easy to show a protagonist endlessly reloading a crossbow quickly enough to heroically dispatch lots of enemies." It's true, right? Van Helsing gets around the problem with his rotary auto-crossbow. And AMC's The Walking Dead's Daryl gets around it because part of the the point is that his weapon creates suspense.

Fortunately, you don't need to use two hands to reload this crossbow, and it doesn't have to take time unless you have to brew more coffee. Reload this black, crossbow-shaped mug with black coffee. Hold it by the pistol grip, and let it take your morning from "quiver" to "bolt." And remember your weapon safety: never point a loaded coffee mug at anyone.
