Drivers Not Wanted
DARPA is one of our favorite government agencies. When your "humble beginnings" are ARPANET, you know good things are bound to come afterward. We're particularly fond of DARPA's Grand Challenge, a race hosted every year to encourage (nay, even instigate) the development of autonomous (aka "unmanned") ground vehicles. Whether you're a fan of Sebastian Thrun's small team / software-centric or Red Whittaker's large team / hardware-centric approach (or that of one of the underdogs), you have to admire folks who can take a vehicle and teach it to drive better than most humans can. Of course, cars can't decide to read the paper or talk on their cell-phones while driving, which is a definite plus.
