There are two constants in the Universe: Death and Taxes

The United Stages Federal Government, in fiscal year 2008, has spent a little over $3.6 Trillion dollars. That's an enormous figure. To put it in perspective, that's enough money to buy every man, woman and child in the USA two of every single product ThinkGeek sells.

ThinkGeek is ready to do its patriotic duty, of course. We're just waiting for the phone call from the President.

While we wait for that call, we're all busy staring incredulously at this beautiful poster. It breaks down the Federal Government's 2009 budgets for programs that receive more than $200 million annually. Each circle represent the major departments, and each little line represents the programs themselves. The larger the circle, the larger the hunk of budget they take up.

There's plenty for folks on the left and on the right to get angry at: Look at the size of the Department of Education! ZOMG! What the hell is "RETRACT JUNIPER" and why are we spending more on that than on Fusion Energy research?

It's a fascinating snapshot of our government "at work." Hahah! Get it? "At work?" No? Crickets?
