A Little Sip of Vi
Vi (pronounced “vee eye” for those who don’t know) is, quite simply, a file editor. History tells us that Vi was created by Bill Joy in 1976, as he was searching for an easier way to edit files in Unix. But now it’s time for us to tell you the truth of Vi.
You see, what really happened is this: Bill Joy was sucked into his computer and everything was glowing and retro in there. Suddenly, Bill found himself in a neon blue skin-tight outfit and a flying-disc weapon. He was forced to play a game fighting other folks similarly dressed, but in red. He even got to drive around in cool cycle-things. Bill Joy fought hard and eventually won the game, his freedom, and the secrets of Vi. Honest.
