Magnets are sort of like the rock stars of the science world - they pump screaming music out to the crowds (there are magnets in guitar pick ups, microphones, and big honking speakers, for example). The real reason magnets are like rock stars is because they are both so darn attractive. Get it? GET IT?!? Oh, we slay ourselves. Bur seriously folks, we really are magnet groupies and we love checking out magnetic fields. And viewing magnetic fields has never been easier than with the Magnet Tube Magnetic Field Viewer.
The Magnet Tube is a sealed plastic tube filled with iron filings. There's a tunnel through the tube, however, that the Alnico magnet (the same type in microphones, speakers, and etc.) fits in. Give the tube a shake and the iron filings collect and connect, showing the arcs of the magnetic fields. This is a great little science fair-y experiment and also an awesome desk toy. 'Cause you can slide the magnetic back and forth and make the iron filings dance. It's a scientific hula!
