For most folks in their twenties, Mario represents their computing youth. For most of us in our 30s, the Atari logo is our totem of a misspent youth. Even though the corporation has morphed many times from what it once was, when we see the friendly Atari logo on packaging today, it still fills us with nostalgia for a simpler time. A time when woodgrain was cool. A time when televisions didn't have remotes. A time when there were no 3-button combos, because there was only one button.
You brought us Pong, Asteroids, and Centipede. You brought the masses to the idea of a computer in the home, and, for that, we salute you, Atari.
