The ThinkGeek Newsletter!

July 1, 2008

Hoopy Froods,

As Spring morphs into Summer, ThinkGeek is acutely aware that you are itching for the latest gadgets and some new promos. How do we know this? Because we have the latest gadgets and some new promos and Spring is morphing into Summer, something we are acutely aware of. Let's throw a tangent into this circuitous intro by just diving in then...

Grow Your Own 1up Mushroom

Grow Your Own 1up Mushroom

Exercise Your 8-Bit Green Thumb

Ever feel like you might get more respect from your co-workers if they knew you had an extra life up your sleeve? How about a handy 1up mushroom growing on your desk to let everyone around you know that you could simply re-spawn the next time someone tries to backstab you in front of the boss? Straight out of Mario's garden, the ThinkGeek Grow Your Own 1up Mushroom gives the illusion that you grew a real 1up mushroom in a pipe shaped pot. Simply add soil to the pot and push the mushroom into the center. This fully licensed Nintendo collectible will fool your co-workers and get you way more respect than a ficus plant.

Atlas Mini 3-Channel R/C Helicopter - More Channels = More Better

Atlas Mini 3-Channel R/C Helicopter - More Channels = More Better

Three is almost always better than two. It's true with donuts, gigabytes of memory and of course R/C helicopter channels. Unlike almost every other small R/C copter available, the addition of a third channel in the Atlas copter from Silverlit allows you to control the forward motion of the helicopter in addition to right/left rotation and moving up/down. Hover, move forward slowly, move forward quickly... it's up to you. This makes the Atlas one of the easiest small R/C copters to control and fly... and trust us, we've tried dozens of different models.

Nintendo Wall Graphics - Immerse Yourself In Mario

Your obsession with Mario started with you feeding your lunch money into Donkey Kong machines, then you grew giant thumb-blisters playing Super Mario on the NES. Ever since, it's been downhill - culminating in the not-so-wise decision to name your children Luigi and Diddy. Poor Diddy. You've lived your life around Mario, so don't stop now. You can finally cover your walls in him with these awesome restickable vinyl wall graphics from Blik! These wall graphics catalog his evolution from 15-pixel high sprite to full 3d-rendered virtual being. Make your walls into a video game worthy of an Italian plumber!

Crystal Growing Kit - Nature's Legos

Crystal Growing Kit - Nature's Legos

Nature's Legos are called molecules (sure she has smaller pieces, but just go with it). When molecules are stacked in different ways, they make different things. Molecules stacked in a yellow, fruity way make a banana. Molecules stacked in a process called "crystalization" form (you guessed it) a crystal. With this kit, you can grow four different configurations of cystals - from a single "ruby" crystal to a forest of "citrine" crystals. And what you do with the crystals is up to you - but may we suggest powering a starship?

Puzzle Calendar - Unique Custom Daily Timekeeper

The way we mark the passage of time defines us as a sentient species. Cavemen tracked the high-position of the sun on cavern walls. The Sumerians and Hittites, we're told, scratched markings on the backs of Palm Pilots using clay styli. Modern man seems to like the paper desk-blotter, and that's full of lose. There's no personality in paper at all. Now build your own 3d calendar from colorful toy bricks - 77 of them with special icons for travel, holidays, birthdays, etc. Keep your fidgety fingers occupied while your brain is occupied with your busy schedule.

Pico USB - The Smallest Memory Available

Pico USB - The Smallest Memory Available

Depending on how old you are, you might remember your first hard-drive. Perhaps you remember your first gigabyte? Maybe even your first hundred-megs? How about your first 40 megs? There are some, even, who wax lyrical about a 5 meg hard-drive the size of a small filing cabinet. Now, gigabytes are teeny. Itty bitty, pico-tiny. We have the technology to cram 8 gigabytes into something the size of the last digit of your pinky! So small, it's barely bigger than the USB interface. Totally unreal!

Make time for the Free Time Watch

The planets trace rings around the Sun, each one completing a full orbit in a different amount of time. Our most important measurement of time, the year, is based on this full rotation around the Sun. In fact, all our major units of time (day, month, year) are based on different rotation periods. So, like the planets tracing their various orbits, the rings on this watch each move with different rotational speeds to indicate the time. The three concentric circles rotate clockwise with each gap in the circle communicating the precise time. The hour, minute and seconds are defined by the outer, middle and inner rings respectively.

Specialized Green Laser Pointers

If you've spent any time browsing the ThinkGeek catalog, then you are familiar with the utter coolness of green lasers. These lasers are pure eye candy, very bright and look much better than a standard red laser pointer. And now we have three new varieties to add to the mix. The Stars model projects hundreds of green laser dots simultaneously and allows you to adjust their pattern using the rotating front lens on the laser. The Shapes model has five pattern caps (cross, circle with dot, line, arrow, dot) that project the various shapes in green laser. The Red Green Combo projects red and green lasers using separate buttons for each color.
