Construct Your Own Futuristic Roller Coaster
The classic Spacewarp toy from the 80's has been recreated in Japan and imported by ThinkGeek for your rolling pleasure. What is it that fascinates us about rolling steel balls on a roller coaster style track? Perhaps it's the mesmerizing perpetual motion as the balls zoom around loops and curves, only to be cranked corkscrew style up to the top for another go-round. Or maybe it's the hours of assembly time spent tweaking each section of track to get the perfect run without the balls flying across the room. Either way, the Spacewarp 5000's appeal is half geek based construction project and half satisfaction of watching your intricate marble coaster in action. Of course you can build the exact structure shown here, or design your own crazy track with only the laws of physics as your limitation.
Important Note:
The Space Warp 5000 is imported from Japan, thus the assembly
instructions are in Japanese. However, there are plenty of pictures
in an Ikea-esque manner and you don't need any Japanese language
skills to figure things out. You do need to cut the track to the
proper length for each section with scissors and measurements are
only provided in metric. We do warn you however that you will need
some time to assemble your Spacewarp 5000 and get each track
segment correct so the balls stay on the track properly. With 125
parts, assembly is more than half the fun... so if you're not crazy
about putting stuff together you have been warned.
