Yerba Mate Information
Mate (Gourd) Curing Instructions (do this before first use)
- Fill 3/4 full of yerba leaves and pour in hot water.
- Leave in gourd for 48 hours.
- Rinse with cold water and repeat this process.
Mate (Gourd) Care Tips
- Never use dish detergents with your mate.
- After drinking, rinse quickly with cold water.
- Store in a cool dry place (and not in direct sunlight).
How to Prepare Yerba Mate
- Fill the mate (gourd) 3/4 full with yerba mate.
- Cover the gourd with your hand, turn it upside down, and shake it so that the smaller leaf particles go to the top.
- Pour a small amount of luke-warm water over the leaves.
- Let stand a few seconds, and insert the bombilla (metal straw) firmly until it touches the bottom of the gourd. Do not move the bombilla - even when drinking.
- Pour hot (but never boiling) water on the leaves and sip the infusion through the bombilla.
