Happy Geek Pride Day!

Jedi Timmy is fully prepared for Geek Pride Day. Are you?

How will you be showing your geek pride tomorrow?

Remember, folks, tomorrow is a special day. We show our geek pride everyday, but tomorrow, even more so! May 25 rises geekily above the others because:

Towel Day, the day two weeks after Douglas Adams passed in 2001, when hoopy froods keep their towel handy;

The anniversary of the first Star Wars film, Episode IV: A New Hope, released on May 25, 1977;

Glorious 25 May, the day in Terry Pratchett's Discworld when wearing lilac and hard-boiled eggs (and raising awareness around Alzheimer's research) is appropriate.

And that's why we should celebrate!

Were you one of the lucky ones who picked up a Geek Pride Day pin? If not, fret not: download, print, share, and wear pins with this PDF -- you'll just have to find a way to attach it to yourself. (We suggest the Force.)

Once you've done that, enter below to win Geek Pride Day loot!

Tomorrow, share your photo with your pin along with hashtag #GeekPrideDay anywhere online and share the link with us in the form below. We'll randomly choose 3 mystery box prize winners and 5 runners up who will each win a $42 ThinkGeek gift certificate!

ThinkGeek loves NASA Goddard & Space!

Timmy's ready to tour NASA Goddard's Space Flight Center!

It's a very space-filled month for us here at ThinkGeek!

On Tuesday, May 16th, we had the privilege of touring NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Needless to say, we were pretty much geeking out the entire time. Timmy & co. got to see the inner workings of the NASA Center for Climate Simulation, Astrobiology Lab, Satellite Servicing Capabilities Facility, Spacecraft Test & Integration Complex (so many chambers and cleanrooms!), and the James Webb Space Telescope! Seeing all the work that goes into creating and testing satellite-servicing giant robot arms and the measures taken to build new satellites was awe-inspiring. We were especially excited to see the James Webb Space Telescope. Watching this telescope launch and come to life will be one for the history books, folks. It's going to be GINORMOUS -- the mirror is 21.3 feet (6.5 meters) in diameter. A mirror this large has never been launched into space! Thank you, NASA Blueshift for hosting us & giving us the VIP treatment.

After our visit, one thing that stuck with us was how NASA Goddard works with countries all over the world to develop these satellites. The love of space is something that is shared worldwide! That's why, we've decided to donate $1,000 to Astronomers Without Borders this month. AWB is a non-profit organization that fosters understanding and goodwill across national and cultural boundaries by creating relationships through astronomy. Their projects promote sharing--sharing resources, sharing knowledge, sharing inspiration--all through a common interest in something basic and universal: sharing the sky.

Speaking of which, something very interesting was spotted in the skies the other day. WhatTravisSays launched a Space TARDIS into our atmosphere, with a Timmy Jack Harkness hitching a ride. Watch the video below to see Timmy make his way into space! You can also watch the making of and a blooper reel of the project on his channel. Thanks for letting him go along for the ride, Travis!

Thanks again to NASA Goddard, Astronomers Without Borders, and WhatTravisSays for doing what you do. Your love of space inspires us to go out and explore the universe!

Now recruiting volunteers for Timmy's Costuming Corps!

If there's something strange, in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbuster Timmy!

Timmy is coming.

To San Diego Comic-Con! Yes, you guessed right, it is that time again.

Calling all knitters, crocheters, stitchers, needle-and-threaders, staplers, paste-eaters, hot gluers, and bedazzlers (just kidding!) to join Timmy's Volunteer Costume Corps! Timmy has no idea what to wear to SDCC in late July and would appreciate you helping a naked monkey out. He's hoping to debut new costumes at the con!

When we started this project 3 years ago, we did not expect the number of costumes Timmy would acquire. A big thank you to all the volunteers who have turned Timmy's closet into what it is today. Words cannot adequately describe how much we appreciate your help in keeping Timmy geekily clothed all year long. (Not everyone finds a naked monkey running around in public entertaining, apparently!)

Think you've got the time and skillzzz to take Timmy's cosplay collection to the next level? Check out his costume wishlist below, take a gander at his existing collection, and sign up below to volunteer!

If you sign up below, we'll be in touch via email to confirm your costume pick to ensure maximum costume efficiency. (Ten people working on the same costume means we'll have to choose favorites and that's no fun.) We also have Timmy clones handy if you'd like to snag one, but Timmy's measurements are below for reference.

Loading...

Pretty sure that's every possible measurement, but let us know if we missed one!

Your deadline, should you choose to accept it

Timmy and his entourage will leave ThinkGeek HQ on July 16th, and they'll need sometime to organize and get his bags packed. So the deadline for your costume to arrive at the HQ is July 1, 2013.

Where to ship your creations

Please address your costume to: Timmy's Volunteer Costuming Corps, ThinkGeek, 11216 Waples Mill Road, Suite 100, Fairfax, VA 22030.

Where will Timmy wear your work?

All over the world! At conventions and geeky gatherings, fundraisers, and premiers. He'll debut his new costumes at SDCC this July, though. We also display all of his costumes in our conference room, and in our Timmy costume Flickr album where you'll be credited so that others may bask in the glow of your stunning artistry forever.

That's it! If you have any questions or need more details, please comment below and we'll update this post with the necessary information.

We are already so excited! Thank you, everyone!

ThinkGeek Kids Need to Read

Will you be attending Geek Prom at Phoenix Comicon next weekend?

Our favorite pastime when we were wee monkeys? Hands down: reading. Getting lost in a book and letting our imaginations run wild was the most fun we could have.

When we heard there were schools and libraries across the country that did not have access to books, we wanted to do something to change this. That's when Kids Need to Read came to the rescue. Their mission statement: "create a culture of reading for children by providing inspiring books to underfunded schools, libraries, and literacy programs across the United States, especially those serving disadvantaged children." (It doesn't hurt that one of our favorite browncoats, Nathan Fillion, supports KNTR, too.) Reading inspired and let us dream of all the endless possibilities we could create for ourselves; it helped develop us to who we are today. This is something that we would not want to deny our future generations.

To support their cause, we've donated a ton of ThinkGeek goodies giveaway at their Geek Prom. (Pictured left.) This is a geeky soiree hosted at Phoenix Comicon where attendees get dolled up in their geekiest attire and dance the night away! All the ticket proceeds from this event go directly to KNTR.

We hope all the prom attendees have a grand ol' time next week. And thank you Kids Need to Read for doing what you do!

Happy Mother's Day from ThinkGeek!

Swordfights with mom are always the best.

Thank you, Moms!

We hope you've planned something special for your Mother of Dragons this weekend. Perhaps you picked up one of our geeky bundles for her or you're planning a fancy meal. (The dragons will come in handy for that, but please keep a fire extinguisher nearby at all times.)

Here at ThinkGeek, we wanted honor all the mothers out there.

In the spirit of the season, we've donated $1,000 to Doorways for Women and Families, a local-to-ThinkGeek charity. Doorways provides housing, supplies, and supportive services to protect mothers and their children from domestic abuse and homelessness. Doorways imagines a future where all people live free of violence and have safe and stable housing. We hope you'll consider volunteering or donating to their cause!

So thank you, moms, for everything that you've done for us. Whether it was by teaching us our first tabletop game, explaining why the sky's blue and how stars only seem to flicker, or just keeping us safe and warm, thanks for shaping us into the adults--and geeks--we are today.

The ThinkGeek staff & Super Art Fight team join forces to create one awesome night!

How was your Star Wars Day? We hope it was amazing because nothing has topped ours! With almost 200 geeks in attendance, the ThinkGeek & Super Art Fight team up at Jammin Java was a great success.

If you were there, you know that you're now part of a super secret circle of inside jokes and "you had to be there" moments. For the rest of you: TOO BAD. ...Okay, fiiine. If you insist!

For those of you not familiar with the magic of Super Art Fight, they are the self-proclaimed "Greatest Live Art Competition in the Known Universe." Super Art Fight artists (a.k.a. "fighters") battle it out on stage with their art. The topic of the round may be decided beforehand, but throughout the battle, the artists are given new topics, chosen by the WHEEL OF DEATH, that must be incorporated into the picture. Winners are then chosen based on audience applause. Adding in the commentary and witty banter from co-hosts Marty & Ross, the assistance of Chalmers, the referee, and the ThinkGeek staff with raffles and prizes (like the Tauntaun Sleeping Bag and Chewbacca Robe), this was the perfect recipe for an epic show.

ROUND 1: Original vs. Prequel Trilogy

Ashley "MarkerMancer" Katz vs. Jamie "Brawlin'" Baldwin

Jamie "Brawlin'" Baldwin's naked Emperor won the crowd over in this round, and she was declared the victor! Ashley "MarkerMancer" Katz put up a good fight, but the Original Trilogy will always reign supreme.

ROUND 2: Who shot first?

Jamie "Angry Zen Master" Noguchi vs. Chris "The Impact" Impink

Two veterans were put against each other in this round; they were asked the age old question: WHO SHOT FIRST? It was a close round, but Jamie "Angry Zen Master" Noguchi came out on top! Looks like diabeetis was too much for Pizza the Hut.

ROUND 3: Star Trek vs. Star Wars

"The Nicest Man in Art Fight" Brandon J. Carr vs. Red Erin

The final round of Super Art Fight plotted fandom vs. fandom: STAR WARS OR STAR TREK? To everyone's surprise (and the Trekkie fans' amusement), the representative of Star Trek, Red Erin, went home the winner. It's no wonder she's undefeated! "The Nicest Man in Art Fight" Brandon J. Carr definitely did not go down without a fight.

Star Trek winning at a Star Wars event is unheard of. This definitely calls for a rematch! We had so much fun that we hope to team up with Super Art Fight again in the future. Perhaps even some ThinkGeek monkeys will duke it out next time!

Until then, we'll look back and always have fond memories of Eworf, the Naked Emperor, Pizza the Hut, AT-AT Walker Texas Ranger, Storm Poopers, and Slave Llama.

ThinkGeek supports the Wounded Warrior Project!

Heroes. Whether super, in our everyday lives, fighting, or have fought for us, heroes hold a very special place in our hearts.

With the release of Iron Man 3, we're reminded of our love and respect for them, and how we should celebrate all that they do! That's why we've decided to donate $1,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project this month. WWP is a nonprofit organization with a mission to "honor and empower wounded warriors" and envisions the possibility of fostering the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in United States history. They wish to raise awareness, and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members.

With the help of WWP programs, these returning heroes are provided with advanced technology and care to help them readjust to the world around them. We're so happy to be part of an age where not only does technology create heroes (we dream of having our own Iron Man suit one day), but it helps our existing ones stay strong as well.

Thank you for all that you have done for us, heroes!

ThinkGeek Movie Night: Star Trek!

Captain Kirk & Spock want to know: are you ready?

Are you ready for May 17?!

Friday, May 17, is the release of Star Trek: Into Darkness. We're kind of really excited. So excited that we want to host a movie night and invite 30 local-to-us geeks to our HQ to watch the 2009 Star Trek movie together!

Please join us on Thursday, April 25 in watching Star Trek and preparing ourselves for the premiere of Star Trek: Into Darkness. We know what you must be thinking, "This sounds too good to be true! How many goats do I have to sacrifice to attend?" Answer: NONE! You only need to be willing to have a good time, consume pizza, and take home the freebies we may or may not be handing out. CAN YOU DO THAT?!

If yes, then please sign up via the form below by 5pm ET Wednesday, April 17 to let us know you would like to attend. RandomBot will then select 30 crew members to climb aboard the ThinkGeek ship. Good luck!

Mission Details:

Movie night will be held at ThinkGeek HQ in Fairfax, VA.

The sign up form will close on Wednesday, April 17 at 5pm, where we will then randomly choose 30 attendees and notify them via email that evening. Please be sure to bring your email confirmation on the day of the event! If you find out later that you cannot make it, please notify us ASAP, so we can select a replacement.

There can only be 30 people. If you would like to bring a fellow human being or other life form, then you must indicate that on the form.

Geeklings are welcome! We'd prefer it if they were 10 or up, though. Geeklings also count as your +1.

Doors open at 6:30pm. You can check-in, get yer raffle ticket, mingle with your fellow geeks, and get a tour of ThinkGeek HQ as well. The movie will begin at 7:00 with pizza and fizzy bevvies to accompany it. We'll hold the raffle around 9:00, and the festivities will end around 9:30.

If there's anything we haven't covered, or if you have any questions, please let us know in the comments!

See (some of) you on the 25th!

The sign up period has closed! Our randomly chosen crew members will be receiving an email shortly. If you don't get an email, this means you're on the waiting list in case one of the attendees can't make it!

ThinkGeek's SCOTTEVEST Travel Con-test!

Never have enough pockets to keep all your gadgets and swag in at conventions? Fear not! ThinkGeek & SCOTTEVEST are here to help you channel your inner pack rat.

There's still time left! <del>Enter below by 11:59pm ET, Sunday, April 14 for the chance to win a fully furnished, con-ready SeV Tropiformer Jacket.</del> One lucky winner will receive over $600 worth of prizes (pictured below), as long as you can correctly guess the weight of the jacket with all the items inside.

The jacket transforms into a vest! Here it is with all the prizes pictured on the right, inside.

Please Note:

While their weight should be considered in your guess, the iPad & iPhone pictured are NOT included in the Grand Prize. Unfortunately, their original owners would not be too happy about that.

The only unit of measurement we will accept is pounds! (Sorry, it's just simpler and yes, we're silly Americans.) Please convert ounces to decimals and enter ONLY THE NUMBER in the form. For instance, 5 pounds 3 ounces is 5.1875 pounds, and you would enter "5.1875" in the form.

One entry per person, please. We will only consider your first submission, even if you've changed your mind, so make sure you're set on your answer!

You can enter on this blog post or on our contest page, but NOT both. Remember: there can only be one!

The winner is the person who guesses the closest to the correct weight, without exceeding it. In the event of a tie, the winner will be selected randomly from those entrants.

Only the countries listed in the form can participate; if your country is not listed, sorry! Timmy sends you all his love and e-bananas.

Looking for the legalese? You can find it here.

The contest is now closed. Congratulations to Lisette S. of Pullman, WA with the winning guess of 7.23 pounds!

Even Vampire Timmy was kind enough to donate!

...For now.

Thank you to all the TG monkeys & local geeks for donating blood at our HQ on Thursday, 3/28! It's hard to find time during a weekday to visit the ol' Bloodmobile, so your efforts are much appreciated. We hope our mountain of snacks and freebies were enough to refuel you for the rest of the day. (If not, you're gonna have to take it up with Vampire Timmy. Good luck.) Because of you, we were able to meet our goal: 27 pints altogether!

Unfortunately, our monkeys were too drained to nab a photo of the Bloodmobile, but thank you to Inova Blood Donor Services for all your help! We hope to do this again in the future, as there were some monkeys who were suffering from a classic case of PAX East con plague and too germy to participate. They want in on the blood sucking action, too!

Thanks again for your help in saving lives! Every drop counts.
