Oh HapPI Day!

Eat delicious baked goods while celebrating math!

Eat delicious baked goods while celebrating math!

ThinkGeek, what's special about this year's Pi Day?" Uh, it's an excuse to eat pies and celebrate math. How much more special can a day get?

Maybe you're new to this whole "Pi Day" phenomenon, so let us break it down for you. Here's what you likely already know about our most favorite constant:

  • Pi ( π ) is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter
  • It's an irrational number so its digits are infinite and non-repeating
  • 3.14 are the first digits of Pi (which is why Pi Day falls on 3/14 every year)

Now... here's some fun Pi facts you might not know!!

  • In the Greek alphabet, π is the sixteenth letter; in the English alphabet, P is also the sixteenth letter
  • Suresh Kumar Sharma currently holds the world record for memorizing the most digits of Pi at 70,030
  • Pi has been studied by the human race for ~4,000 years
  • The first million decimal places of pi consist of 99,959 zeros, 99,758 1s, 100,026 2s, 100,229 3s, 100,230 4s, 100,359 5s, 99,548 6s, 99,800 7s, 99,985 8s, and 100,106 9s
  • Albert Einstein was born on Pi Day in 1879
  • There are no occurrences of the sequence 123456 in the first million digits of pi

What's your favorite type of pizza?

I'll take my sector with extra cheese, please! (Image Source: PBS)

Even though we have to wait an extra day in 2016 (thanks, Leap Year), Pi Day is just around the corner, and we're getting ready to celebrate!

Last year we asked you to vote on your favorite pies (Pondering the Perfect Pie for the Perfect Pi Day) but we focused on the dessert kind, and not the cheesy, delicious, incredible-dream-inducing pies that most of us can't get through a night of gaming without. So, this year we wanted to hear your thoughts on the following:

Assuming you don't have to consider anyone else when ordering, what toppings would have to be on your favorite pizza?

And the delicious results made us hungry...
