Timmy Link meets Tiny Link!

Timmy Link meets Tiny Link at PAX East!

PAX East has come and gone, and we couldn't be happier than a cat in a cardboard box. One word: AWEMAZING. (We couldn't choose between awesome and amazing.)

Thank you to all our loving fans, AbleGamers, the Cookie Brigade (Check out their sweet PAX Infosplosion!), and the PAX staff for making this such an unforgettable event!

The folks of Super Art Fight!

The talent of Super Art Fight!

Are you ready for a fight? A SUPER ART FIGHT?!

Super Art Fight!

Mark your calendars, folks! ThinkGeek & Super Art Fight are taking over Jammin Java on May the Fourth! (What better way to celebrate the Force than on the Fourth with us, right? RIGHT?!)

If you're not familiar with this live event, Super Art Fight is the self-proclaimed "Greatest Live Art Competition in the Known Universe." Artists are put against each other on stage to draw topics given to them on the spot; add a generous mix of story-telling, commentary, and banter, and it's not something you want to miss! (We mean, c'mon, they've got something called the WHEEL OF DEATH!) Come witness these artists duke it out, along with the chance to win ThinkGeek goodies & hang with Timmy!

So here's how this fight's going down:

  • The event will take place at Jammin Java (map) on Saturday, May the Fourth from 5pm to 7:30pm. Doors open at 4:30pm.
  • Tickets go on sale the afternoon of Wednesday, April 3. Nab them before they sell out!
  • Geeklings must be 13 years or older to attend.

We'll post the tickets sales link on our blog on Wednesday, so PREPARE YOURSELVES!

Timmy & Geek Trivia Night

Welcome to ThinkGeek's Geek Trivia Night! Timmy will be your host for tonight.

Pi Day has come and gone and so has Geek Trivia Night. One word to describe it? Epic.

When 100 of our Geek Trivia Night tickets sold out in less than an hour, we thought, "Holy cannoli, what do the Pi Gods have in store for us?!"

ThinkGeek's Geek Trivia Night!

So many geeky minds in one room!

A wonderful evening of fun & geeky camaraderie, apparently! From the movie round to the bonus Pi Day pie-eating contest, we challenged the 14 teams with our questions. While they may have proven to be more difficult than our teams had anticipated (you could hear their brains churning!), they gave us all they got! We're just glad that no one had to don the Dunce Cap AKA Creeper Mask in the end. There were some that were close, though. You know who you are.

PIE-EATING CONTEST! (Thanks to Trivia Night attendee, Sparrow Davis, for the video!)

By the end of the night, with six rounds altogether and one team, I am Jack's Collection of Geeks, pulling far ahead, we all thought they had this in the bag. Then came the final wager round. The category? Film. The question:

Which brand of shaving cream was the can that Dennis Nedry used to steal the dinosaur embryos in Jurassic Park?*

If you were there, you might remember everyone's heart skipping a beat when we realized the leading team's answer was incorrect and they had wagered almost everything. (Better luck next time, Jack!) The tables had turned! All the other teams still had a fighting chance! Once all the scores had been calculated, some teams were brought down to 0 and others jumped way ahead. The final results were: Suddenly Cylons in first place, Timmy's Minions in second, and The Brute Squad in third! Congratulations to our winning teams! You earned it. (We're especially proud of Timmy's Minions because they were a group of randoms that we matched up and were meeting for the first time that night!)

Geek Trivia Night winners!

The winning teams accepting their prizes! Suddenly Cylons won $75 gift certificates & Plush Unicorn Slippers; Timmy's Minions received $30 gift certificates & Build-on Brick Mugs; and The Brute Squad each won themselves $25 gift certificates. Congratulations again!

Thank you to all our attendees for making our inaugural Geek Trivia Night a success! We had so much fun and hope to do it again. Thank you to Steve the MC and all the TG staff volunteers as well. We couldn't have done it without you! If you have any comments or feedback, please feel free to leave it in the comments section below.

In the meantime, we've got a lot of other events planned in the coming months, so stay tuned!

Music 4 More Festival

March is Music In Our Schools month, so it's time to celebrate. If you ask any member of the ThinkGeek crew, we grew up with music having played some part in our lives, and it helped shape us into who we are today. Music holds a special place in our monkey hearts, so of course we want to show support to music programs nationwide!

Music 4 More Festival

In keeping with the spirit of our monthly donations, we're contributing $1,700 to Music 4 More -- a local charity organization focused on collecting and providing instruments and resources to struggling school and community music programs across the country. In addition to that, Music 4 More is receiving plenty of ThinkGeek goodies as well!

Throughout the month of March, they are conducting a series of StageIt concerts to promote Music In Our Schools and may be giving away these new shinies as tokens of appreciation for tuning in. This will lead up to the end of the month where they'll be hosting a music festival in Chesapeake, VA; it's a two-day event (March 29-30) benefiting the children's schools and hospital there. Our goodies might be handed out at the shows or at the hospital and schools the musicians visit, so if you're in the area, please come check it out! There will be over 50 artists performing, so you won't want to miss it.

If you'd like to get more involved, please visit the Music 4 More Music In Our Schools Month donation page, where your contribution could help repair and purchase new instruments and supplies for music programs in need.

Please help keep music a part of our future generation's lives!

Wee, used shinies!

We all remember our first introduction to computers. You may type 100 WPM now, but remember when it was more like 1?! That seems like forever ago.

There are those who haven't had the opportunity to pick up these skills, though, and we want to help change that. With this in mind, our awesome IT guy, Tim, and WTFun Committee organized a computer auction! We rounded up all the old, unused computers in our office, wiped them clean, and auctioned them off to the ThinkGeek staff. Their form of payment was a donation to Computer CORE, a local Northern Virginia organization dedicated to improving the lives of low-income adults by providing them with the basic computer and life skills they need to pursue their career aspirations and dreams.

All the computers!

The pickings: MacBook Pro, Dell laptop, or Mac mini!

These bad boys flew off the cart, and altogether we were able to donate $1,510 to assist Computer CORE in their cause.

Good work, monkeys! Timmy is quite pleased.

ThinkGeek Knit & Crochet

Oh no, Timmy! LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!

On February 21st, we held our first Knit & Crochet Night of 2013; 25 randomly selected crafters were brave enough to face rush hour traffic and make the trip out to our HQ to enjoy a night of fun and festivities. All in all, it was a great success!

We started the night off right by giving the grand ol' tour of our office; as everyone settled in, we began to put together our TOP SECRET PROJECT: a Companion Cube baby blanket! We couldn't be happier with the end result - it looks fantastic! Every attendee did their part to make this project a reality, and we want to thank each and every one of you. The blanket will be donated to Project Linus, an organization that provides knitted and crocheted blankets to children in need.

Chell Timmy's newfound companion!

Afterwards, like a magical food fairy, the pizza finally arrived! Whilst we nommed, our more experienced crafters gave short talks on various knit and crochet topics. Our copy writer monkey, E, spoke about the Mother Bear Project, a charity that provides hand-knitted or crocheted bears to children affected by HIV/AIDS in emerging nations. (We may be trying to organize our own project for Mother Bear soon, so keep an eye out!) E was followed by Emily, who spoke about continental knitting, and Allyson, who gave an introduction to amigurumi.

The rest of the night was spent chit-chatting away, trading craft secrets, and sharing our wares. We had quite the talented group among us - there were knitted lightsaber toys, stuffed Daleks, and all sorts of geeky scarves and hats. (If you want to see them all, check out our Flickr slideshow below!) We topped off the event with a raffle and freebies for EVERYONE! YAY!

Just a few of the geeky wares everyone brought!

Thanks again to all our attendees for coming out and contributing to the special project; we couldn't have done it without you! Since this went so well, we are considering expanding our Knit & Crochet event to allow all our friends from afar to participate. Be on the lookout!
