Good news for Canadian wallets!

A wall of loot!

Canadian geeks, we have good news!

Due to overwhelming and quite understandable demand, our palletmonkeys Julie and Michelle have used their geeky prowess to acquire economy shipping for you!

You'll be seeing more of this soon.

Here are the details:

  • This new economy shipping is only available for small orders or light things, so you can't use it to ship a Tauntaun to Edmonton on the cheap. (Sorry!)
  • You will, however, be able to use it to ship a few t-shirts, a couple of books, and maybe a plush. Anything less than 5 pounds (aka 2.26796185 kg) or so.
  • There will be no tracking on these economically-shipped orders, so their arrival dates will be a happy surprise.
  • However, your package will be delivered via Canada Post, which from what we've heard from our Canadian counterparts is extremely convenient as compared to other methods.
  • It's pretty slow, but a LOT cheaper.

So there are pros, and there are cons, but all in all, we're thinking that this will save you a lot of moola. We've been looking forward to helping you guys with that for a LONG time.

So have fun with your soon-to-arrive loot, and let us know what you think!

P.S. If you venture southwards, please to be bringing delicious poutine? We love poutine. Also, bacon.

meaningless icon! My distant cousin John (not his real name), who delivers mail in rural Saskatchewan, is happy to hear he won't have to carry any tauntauns on his back as he makes his daily round on snowshoes in waist-deep snow, going uphill in a headwind (both ways), but he is looking into purchasing one for himself and training it to do the carrying for him so he has more time to enjoy his poutine.
SuperMarina said this 1118 days ago.
meaningless icon! But, with cheap shipping, I need to use willpower to not buy toys and stuff. I don't know if that will work!
CCurzon said this 1118 days ago.
meaningless icon! Thank you ThinkGeek! One of the downsides to ordering from here in Canada was the shipping cost, it did't make sense to order something small because of having to pay for expedited shipping. I forsee more shopping in the future! BWT, if I head southwards I won't just bring bacon and poutine, I'll bring the awesome bacon poutine for you to try!
oohshiny77 said this 1118 days ago.
meaningless icon! That's great news!! Thanks so much to the palletmonkeys for getting Canada Post. It's completely worth a slower shipping time when compared to paying the extra mystery surprise border brokerage fees that end up being more than the cost of the items and shipping together! Maybe we can repay you with poutine that has bacon in it...
cmjsrevihc said this 1118 days ago.
meaningless icon! This rocks. You guys rock! In fact, this makes me want to buy from you guys even more!! Yay! :) As for the poutine... if I head southward, I hereby promise to try to get you some poutine. There is an awesome poutinery which apparently just opened up in town recently (and I hear it rocks). Pulled pork or bacon on poutine? They do it. :) Anyway, many thanks from one of your fans in Canadaland. Now to get the money Jabba owes me--err... ;)

meaningless icon! The day this was posted, I ordered the Portal 2 hoodie to be delivered to Canada. It just showed up today with only a $16 charge from customs, delivered to my door (and then sent to the nearest post office which is under 2 kms away - a mile for you imperialists). All told, I spent $32 to have it shipped and customs instead of the typical $28 for shipping and $30 for customs and brokerage fees. THANKS YOU! I <3 ThinkGeek

javagurl said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! This is great...I always have to hem and hah about my orders because the duty+premium shipping can double the cost of an order. I don't mind the waiting...but I have always minded the cost! This is fantastic....THANK YOU for considering your upstairs neighbours!
Crycke7 said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! Jumping Snowballs Batman. After complaining about DHL's "Broker Fees" for years you finally have done it. This has stopped me from ordering from TG everytime I get a product email. Canada Post is Awesome. Never had a problem and even when I challenged the few items estimated value I got mony back in weeks.! Thanks Think. Now figure out how to ship the Tauntaun by CP.
Gandalfnet said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! Didn't know about this until I received this week's newsletter. Thanks a lot! The shipping price was REALLY a bummer, like Gandalfnet said it had stopped me from ordering from TG.
wydjaz said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! You can't believe how happy this makes me! Zomg more reasons to buy from ThinkGeek! <3 I used to just never buy because shipping, handling and customs always double the price of what I wanted to buy, and I always had to buy in bulk...but I'm a poor college student. TTnTT Also I live in Quebec, of course I can give you poutine 8D It's totally awesome isn't it?
Ophexis said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! This is a great option to avoid the brokerage fees and annoying pickup locations of the big delivery companies. Keep in mind that it can be slow and you've got no tracking; a single t-shirt took 5 weeks to get to me in Toronto.
mbar said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! YAY! Now I can order, pay less shipping, AND not get those surprise BROKERAGE fees that both DHL and UPS charge. Was previously ordering once every year or 2, but with this new shipping option, can see ordering every month or 2 at least...great stuff.

prak said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! Prak, Sorry for the confusion! Sounds like your order might not qualify for weight reasons. Canada Post won't take things over ~5 lbs from us.
CarrieGouldin said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! Awesome news!
Eric Syre said this 1053 days ago.
meaningless icon! Thanks you guys. This is great. The brokerage fees in some cases double the cost of the order. I am happy we have another choice. Brokerage fees are a total racket in my opinion. I thought there was "free trade?" What a joke!. But thanks again

meaningless icon! I ordered some items from your site last friday (decembre 9), I got them delivered today, thursday december 15. I live in Montreal. That's just about the speed of light, isn't it? What's the device your using, sell it to us, now. On top of that, no CoD fee. That's, just, great. Thanks!

meaningless icon! YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
lger said this 1038 days ago.
meaningless icon! @ OriginalMics, Thank you(!!) for posting about differences you saw in customs fees with the different shipping options. Those fees are incomprehensible, and I can't believed it is allowed to stay that way. (Is there ANY WAY to verify total cost up front?!?) They also seem to vary wildly enough not to be able to draw any definite conclusions from one person's experience, but if more and more of us post about it, maybe we can figure it out! :)

meaningless icon! Geekpoint redeemed "FreeLoader Pro Solar Charger" and a "Star Wars Jedi Robe" was too heavy apparently as this was not an option :(
FtonDavid said this 971 days ago.
meaningless icon! The hatred I have for DHL express can only be tempered by the awesomeness that is inside my orders... I live in Montreal and they only have one outpost. it is situated right next to the airport and it's an hour and a haft by bus... Oh and their customer service (DHL express, not think geek) is terrible.... I would pay extra money not to have to deal with anyone else than Canadapost
Dj MegaAlex said this 971 days ago.
meaningless icon! Yesssssssss! DHL pisses me the frak off! This is a happy day for me! :3
Tenshi21 said this 971 days ago.
meaningless icon! AWESOME! =D This may sound like a programmed response but honestly, this definitely encourages me to order WAY more for ThinkGeek. =D About time! XD Thanks, code monkeys!
fr34k said this 971 days ago.
meaningless icon! Glad to hear we don't have to worry about DHL issues so much anymore! Sad to hear that Canada Post won't ship more than 5lbs orders at a time, but perhaps in time that will change - hopefully anyway. I have to wonder, though. Will us northern geeks still have to worry about the same calibre customs charges for our orders?
BigHarv' said this 971 days ago.
meaningless icon! @BigHarv, That all depends on how Canada Post transmits customs charges. From what we've heard, they're much less.
Raevyn W. said this 971 days ago.
meaningless icon! Excellent. This is definitely going to encourage Thinkgeek sales in Canada.... Now maybe oneday there can be a Thinkgeek warehouse and shipping in Canada so Canadians wouldnt have to pay customs duties too?
OttawaKismet said this 971 days ago.
meaningless icon! @OttawaKismet Well we've heard that folks getting their loot delivered via Canada Post tend to not have as many issues with customs. So there's that!

meaningless icon! Huzza! Extra banana smoothies for Timmy and all the monkeys!
Tarsheva said this 969 days ago.
meaningless icon! Huzza! I'm so glad to have an option other than DHL. As for the extra wait time, well, since it usually takes a week of "missed" deliveries, phone calls, and argument to get DHL to deliver anything, it'll probably work out to about the same time, but with way less frustration. Looks like I wasn't the only one who's had endless trouble with DHL. 3 million cheers to Timmy and all the other wonderful monkeys who actually read and respond to customer comments. Timmy for Prime minister!
Tarsheva said this 969 days ago.
meaningless icon! Will we still have to pay additional customs fees when we recieve our products?
krazykuber123 said this 951 days ago.
meaningless icon! Posting this delightful news on non-rent payday. Well played, ThinkGeek, well played. (Although I do think you could have found a more recent Canuck bucks stock picture)
Pengwn-17 said this 948 days ago.
meaningless icon! Thank you very much. I complained about this after my first order which cost almost as much to ship as to buy and the monkeys have come through. Looking foward to my next order.
bridout said this 948 days ago.
meaningless icon! I wish they had this option for my recent order (which was about 4 pounds...) as the shipping was ridiculous ($31 plus $21 in broker fees on 2 items just under $50). Really, the shipping alone made me not want to purchase anything from you again... I tend to never purchase anything from the States that is over $50 because of duty fees, I just never expected the broker fees with this order. OUCH. But Canada Post being an option might make me consider indulging my inner geek wants more often...
WannabeKiwi said this 948 days ago.
meaningless icon! Good news! "Canada Post: Your Tax Dollars at Rest."
Creatrix said this 947 days ago.
meaningless icon! Shortly after receiving my last shipment from TG I received a bill in the mail for additional fees for shipping to Canada. Since it was so expensive I have been unable to order anything else from TG. Does this new shipping offered by TG mean that I will no longer be getting additional fees for living in Canada? That would be amazing :)

meaningless icon! I just used the (flat rate, $10) economy shipping, but it seems it was sent via UPS. I won't know for sure until the parcel arrives or support gets back to me, but chances are good that I'm in for some hefty brokerage fees. USP is notorious in Canada, for good reason. If a store ships via UPS, I don't buy. So on a cursory assessment I would say that the economy shipping isn't really an improvement. Please just use USPS to Canada. All things considered, it's substantially cheaper. And also, please tell us exactly what courier and service is being used for each shipping option. "Economy" doesn't tell me what I need to know to determine what the brokerage fees, C.O.D. fees, and taxes will be.
carpetfilter said this 700 days ago.
meaningless icon! An update: using the flat rate economy shipping to Canada, my order arrived without a COD. According to the details on the box, it was shipped with International Priority Airmail, via UPS. Normally I always had bad experiences with very large brokerage fees through UPS. Not this time. I don't know what ThinkGeek did, but it worked. Mods: feel free to add this as an addendum to my previous post, or simply remove it. I would not want potential customers to be misled!
carpetfilter said this 685 days ago.
meaningless icon! ...and now the rule is ~4 lbs, not 5? I just had to overpay AND go with DHL because my order hit 4lbs but not 5. Argh!
Beans1979 said this 523 days ago.
meaningless icon! Too bad I didn't know better...I ordered some stuff for 48$ less than a week ago and chose to pay for DHL to get tracking and to get my package quicker, but I just received a nice email from DHL today telling me I had to pay 35$ for customs and stuff...that's just wrong, I'm basically paying almost double price for my order lol, next time, ill choose the cheap economy option with mystery delivery date.
